Brief Overview of Role:The Future Skills teacher is a person who has a passion for skills-based education, is flexible in their approach, and is enthusiastic and able to teach concepts and ideas that are not typically part of the traditional classroom. Extensive training will be provided for the specific content areas by our external providers and teaching faculty. The innovative new Future Skills course will teach and develop Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9) students Approaches to Learning (AtL) skills, using a diverse and exciting curriculum as the vehicle for learning. Our Future Skills teacher will need to demonstrate an innovative approach and resilience – this is a new course and the teacher will have considerable input into its design, including what is taught and how, as well as helping to shape the course in future years. In addition to this role, the teacher must be able to teach Chinese language and English or Humanities.The purpose of this course is to develop essential skills for the modern world such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, to ensure that our students can effectively and purposefully navigate life beyond school in a connected and increasingly digital society. The content matter taught will be diverse, ranging from financial literacy to design thinking techniques, with an emphasis on constructively and critically engaging with Artificial Intelligence. Responsibilities:All teachers are subject to the conditions of employment set out in their Teaching Contract. This details the professional and particular duties required of teachers, together with benefits provided by the School.The duties of a Future Skills Teacher at Dulwich College Suzhou are as follows:1 Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour expected of Dulwich teachers and students.2 Be aware of the policies and practices of the School and share in collective responsibility for their implementation.Professional Requirements: 3 Actively promote the well -being of all students and be familiar with, and uphold all, safeguarding policies and reporting lines and procedures within the college.4 Teach high-quality, age appropriate, and engaging lessons to students in KS3 (years 7 – 9), KS4 (years 10 – 11), and KS5 (years 12 – 13).5 Take responsibility for upholding health and safety practices, completing risk assessments/near misses or accident reports as appropriate and ensuring that registers as appropriate are completed accurately. 6 Be familiar with processes and expectations in place so that students requiring additional support (language or AEN) are well supported and that teaching and learning is adjusted accordingly. 7 Act as a Form Tutor or cover a Form Tutor. 8 Undertake student supervisory duties as required and necessary, ensuring effective ‘duty of care’. 9 Follow behaviour management policy and procedures, focused on restorative solutions. 10 Communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders, in person and in writing. 11 Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the Senior School and across the college. 12 Participate in, and support, the broad range of activities and co-curricular events and service learning that takes place in the Senior School, completing a minimum of one CCA activity per week. 13 Attend Parent Teacher Conferences throughout the year, providing parents Teacher Conferences throughout the year, providing parents and students with constructive feedback and next steps for learning. 14 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional colleagues, within DCSZ and the Dulwich group. 15 Meet the requirements of annual performance review, setting measurable objectives and evaluating progress as a reflective, self-directed, practitioner. 16 Complete relevant professional learning as required by the college and maintain a personal record of professional learning activities. 17 Contribute to the improvement plan of the department, Senior School and contribute to the whole college aims as appropriate.Teaching and Learning 1 Recognise that students’ learning can be influenced by their physical, intellectual, emotional, social development and their cultural background, making a commitment to ‘knowing the child’. 2 Nurture positive relationships, ensuring that every child feels known and cared for. 3 Embed the college learning principles into everyday teaching and learning practice and vocabulary. 4 Keep up to date with curriculum development and educational research so that teaching and learning is based on evidence and best practice. 5 Plan and deliver a rigorous, differentiated learning programme which incorporates key content, skills and engaging learning opportunities which can be identified in curriculum planning. 6 Create structured lessons with clear learning intentions, which maintain pace and challenge for students, incorporating a variety of learning activities infusing context and ‘real world’ learning opportunities. 7 Demonstrate flexibility, adopting a responsive approach to teaching and learning, seizing opportunities for innovation and re-enforcing learning as needed based on assessment and feedback. 8 Integrate learning technology into teaching and learning, selecting the most appropriate tool to enhance the learning experience. 9 Demonstrate confidence in the use of learning platforms and technology, completing ongoing professional learning as required to facilitate excellence in face to face or hybrid learning. 10 Set regular, meaningful and appropriately challenging homework, which enables pre-learning, consolidates or extends learning, providing timely and constructive feedback.Assessment, Monitoring, Recording and Reporting 1 Use the baseline and teacher assessment to inform teaching and learning, setting individual student targets throughout the academic year to ensure that all students make progress. 2 Use a variety of methods to assess learning both formative and summative to build a picture of student progress. 3 Provide regular, timely, written and verbal feedback to students and parents on learning, so that students can clearly identify and articulate how to improve their performance, taking ownership for learning and developing greater independence. 4 Uphold and promote policy and practices related to academic integrity, fully utilising ‘turnitin’ and scrutinising externally assessed learning. 5 Ensure that student examination (IGCSE and IB) assessed work, receives timely and appropriate feedback. 6 Follow school policy on assigning levels and grades and communicating performance to students and parents. 7 Accurately report on student progress throughout the academic year, providing personalised feedback on learning and concise actionable steps for improvement. 8 Provide updates on individual progress to professional colleagues and parents as required.Safeguarding1 Ensure that safeguarding, health and safety, and all other College policies are known, understood and embedded into practice2 Any other duties as instructed by the supervisor.Person Specification:Education: 1 A degree and recognised teaching qualification, postgraduate Diploma/Higher degree in education is preferred.2 Evidence of relevant continual professional development3 A minimum of 3 years classroom experience.Skills and Experience:4 Detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant curricula.5 Awareness of current pedagogy and curriculum development.6 An ability to promote each student’s learning through constant formative assessment within the classroom.7 Effective use of learning technologies in all aspects of learning and teaching.8 Understanding and commitment to safeguarding students.9 Involvement in co-curricular programmes.10 Experience of working in an international school is preferred.Personal Quality:1
