“Virtual Reality”译成“虚拟现实”？当然可以！但可能缺了点浪漫……
近日，我国航天事业奠基人、人民科学家钱学森30年前曾为“虚拟现实技术”取名一事引发网友热议，网友直呼：真的是中国科学家的浪漫！
中国式浪漫：灵境
钱学森是中国航天事业奠基人，被誉为“中国航天之父”、“中国导弹之父”、“中国自动化控制之父”和“火箭之王”。20世纪90年代初，钱学森将virtual reality命名为“灵境”，颇具中国韵味。
Distinguished Chinese mathematician and aerospace engineer Qian Xuesen, who is also known as "the father of China's missile and space program", discussed the Chinese translation of the technological term "virtual reality" as early as in 1990, the People's Daily Online reported.

1990年11月，在同汪成为院士的书信中，钱学森说“我特别喜欢‘灵境’，中国味特浓。”
On Nov 27, 1990, Qian mentioned in his letter to an academician that the translation of "virtual reality" could be "人为景境" (man-made realm) or "灵境" (dreamlike realm), pointing out that it contained elements of Chinese culture.
上海交通大学钱学森图书馆的老师说：“‘灵境’是钱学森对英文virtual reality的翻译，体现了钱老深厚的人文功底。”

Qian's translation received wide acclaim online, with many people considering it to be significantly better than the translated version currently in use—"虚拟现实".
钱老认为，灵境技术能大大扩展人脑的知觉，因而使人进入前所未有的新天地，新的历史时代要开始了。
Qian also believed that the technology could greatly expand the perception of the human brain, allowing people to enter an unprecedented world on the cusp of a new era.

不只灵境
这些词都是钱老译定的
此次灵境取名一事引起关注后，有不少网友提出，不仅是灵境一词，激光、航天、航宇等词都是钱老提出译定的。
1985年4月，钱学森曾强调，在我们科技名词定名时，不要忘记我们是炎黄子孙，最好用汉语精炼地表达科学技术名词的涵义。“要根据汉语习惯定名，要让人一看就有中国味。”
激光最初的中文名叫做“镭射”、“莱塞”，是它的英文名称LASER的音译，是取自英文Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation的首字母缩写词，意思是“通过受激发射光扩大”。
起初，我国科技人员根据英文全称将它译为“光受激发射”。钱学森觉得译名太长，建议改称“激光”。而这一名词很快被相关各学科和社会接受，实现了名词统一。
而钱老提出的航天、航空等词，更是让人感到专业又具古典味。
钱老在1987年9月全国科技名词委工作会议上说：“Space这个词有的译为‘空间’，给人感觉是空空洞洞的。我根据毛主席‘巡天遥看一千河’诗句，建议把它定为‘航天’。‘航天’连同‘航天飞机’，一并被接受了。我考虑在太阳系飞行叫‘航天’，在空气中飞行叫‘航空’，将来在银河星系以及大宇宙中飞行可叫‘航宇’。”
